Hospitals and Health Care

Health care in Mérida is excellent and very affordable. Many doctors are English-speaking, often having done their training in the United States. Catastrophic health care insurance is available at reasonable rates. Insurance for doctor's visits and medication is not available, but the price is often the equivalent of the "co-pay" required by insurance companies in the United States.

Mérida has eight excellent hospitals, with more on the way. People from hundreds of miles away come to Mérida for their medical attention. Many foreigners also choose to have their elective surgeries performed in Mérida hospitals.
